Many of the unique old barns in East Tennessee that we grew up admiring are now in disrepair, falling or gone. We wanted to honor our strong urge for nostalgia, our admiration of the Appalachian farmer and an incredibly witty ad campaign. For the exterior, we used old red oak from an authentic East Tennessee barn that sat next to the Tennessee River in Loudon County for 100 years. The roof is waterproof. The dogwood shaped quilt square was a way to pay respect to the widespread trend in barn decor. For a somewhat whimsical function, we added a drawer on the side for storing toys. Thoughtfully designed with the base and top separate for easy moving and cleaning.
